Nel 2019, 20 produttori di polimeri nel mondo hanno prodotto oltre la metà di tutti i rifiuti di plastica monouso generati globalmente, il 55%. I primi 100 ne hanno prodotto il 90%. Le società ExxonMobil e Dow (entrambe statunitensi) sono al primo e al secondo posto, seguite al terzo posto dalla cinese Sinopec. Queste tre aziende da sole hanno prodotto il 16% della plastica monouso che poi è diventata rifiuto. L'italiana Eni è al 40/o posto. Lo rivela il rapporto Plastic Waste Makers Index della fondazione australiana Minderoo. Secondo lo studio, venti gestori istituzionali di capitali, guidati dalle società statunitensi Vanguard Group, BlackRock e Capital Group, possiedono azioni per oltre 300 miliardi di dollari nelle società controllanti questo produttori di polimeri. Di questi soldi, 10 miliardi vengono dalla produzione di polimeri da materia prima vergine per plastiche monouso.

(in lingua inglese) The results of this field experiment highlighted the high productive potentiality of giant reed on a low polluted soil, showing a profitable way to use soils not suitable for food production. The estimated reclamation may be reduced to approximately 25 years but this could still be too long to meet the requirements of environmental decision makers. Nevertheless, any cost benefit evaluation should also take into account the low cost of this phytoremediation technique and the potential profits from bio-energy and biopolymer production.

(in lingua inglese) The tailored GIS system provides the processes of retrieving, visualizing, and updating large amounts of information associated with each soil sample and combines them with its spatial location in a clear organized form. This can be executed in an efficient and time saving way. The tailored GIS system, used in this study, provides decision makers with a quick, relevant and integrated tool for judging accurately and rapidly the soil properties and its activity for a particular site.

(in lingua inglese) From the previously mentioned studies related to the use of RS and GIS in groundwater mapping, it could be concluded thatgroundwater mapping is one of the main tools for efficient and controlled development of groundwater resources. These maps are used by engineers, planners and decision makers to allocate, develop and manage groundwater within a national water policy. Integrated RS and GIS techniques prove to be rather satisfactory options for groundwater mapping in different regions of Egypt.
